If there’s one definitive truth about aromatherapy, it’s this…
There are endless ways to practice! Sure, you may know about adding to a diffuser or making a candle, and who hasn’t made their own massage oil with carrier oils, but what else is there?
Here are 5 ways to use essential oils you may not have thought of to get the most out of your practice each and every day!
Create a Carpet Deodorizer
All you need is a box of baking soda and 5-10 drops of your favorite aromatic oils (we recommend using Lemon, Ylang Ylang, or Purification Oil) to create your very own, unique carpet deodorizer!
Add the oils to the box of baking soda and shake well to distribute. Sprinkle over your carpets and let sit for about an hour before vacuuming.
Dispel Paint Fumes
Doing some housework? No one likes the smell of the fumes that emit from freshly painted walls. Add 10 mL of Peppermint Oil to a gallon of paint and mix well. It will help to cut the unpleasant fumes while giving off a pleasant peppermint aroma to encourage you to keep painting!
Create a Spa Foot Bath
Sometimes, after a long day of being on your feet, a foot bath can do wonders. Try combining 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt and 10 drops of your favorite oil (we recommend Peppermint, Rosemary or Geranium Oil) in a large bowl of hot water and giving your feet a nice, long soak.
Keep Your Yoga Mat Clean & Fresh
Yogis know that their mats can get rather… rank after a while. To help keep your mat clean and benefit from the aroma of essential oils, combine 24 drops (distributed however you’d like!) of Sweet Orange, Tea Tree & Lavender Oils with 4 ounces of purified water in an amber spray bottle.
Spray on your mat after your yoga practice and wipe clean with a soft towel.
Hot Hair Oil Treatment
Dry hair got you down? Condition and moisturize with an at-home hot oil hair treatment!
In a small bag, combine 10 drops of Cedarwood, 10 of Sandalwood, 5 of Lavender and 5 of Rose Geranium with 4 tablespoons of your favorite carrier oil (we recommend using Jojoba or Sweet Almond). Close the bag and place in a bowl of hot water for about 1 minute, until warm.
Use your hands to apply the oil to your hair from tip to root, gently massaging into each strand. Wrap your hair in a towel for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse and wash your hair as normal.
