Native to Southeast Asia, most notably Sri Lanka, cinnamon leaf originates from the evergreen cinnamon tree. Although the inner bark features the most renowned essential oil derived from the plant, its waxy green foliage, along with twigs, is the source of another separate oil. Bearing warm and earthy spiciness, cinnamon leaf essential oil is different from its cinnamon bark counterpart in that it is relatively milder and subtly clove-like.

History of Cinnamon Leaf
Cinnamon is an incredibly popular spice that has been used the world around since ancient times. Although cinnamon bark, with its many culinary applications, has received most of the glory throughout the centuries, the cinnamon leaf is rich with beneficial attributes as well. While the better-known bark gets much of its spicy kick from cinnamaldehyde, those that find the scent of cinnamon bark to be too intense, cinnamon leaf offers a somewhat milder take on the spice, with a charming clove note that comes from that impressive phenol, eugenol.
