Aromatherapy is truly a boundless practice!
The vast ways in which you can customize your aromatherapy routine are limitless, and when coming up with new, fun ways to indulge in the aromatic bliss of essential oils, sometimes you may be overwhelmed by the options available. And that’s perfectly a-okay, since it gives you the opportunity to try new fun methods!
Here’s an idea! We positively love reed diffusers. They are fantastic when it comes to constantly filling a room with any fragrance, plus they are a snap to make at home! You’ll soon find yourself wondering why you ever bothered spending all that money on synthetically scented candles…
Here’s our simple how-to for creating your own uniquely scented (and reusable!) reed diffuser for your collection of essential oils!
YOU WILL NEED
- 1 glass container with a narrow opening
- 4 reed diffuser sticks or bamboo skewers
- ¼ cup of your favorite PipingRock carrier oil
- 25 drops of your favorite PipingRock essential oils
STEP 1
For our reed diffuser, we used a soothing and enlightening combination of Bergamot, Cedarwood and Neroli. Our carrier oil of choice for this occasion will be Sweet Almond Oil. This blend is perfect for this time of year, when the weather starts to cool down and your mood could use a refreshing pick-me-up! If you’d like to use this blend, start with 4 drops of Bergamot, 4 drops of Cedarwood and 3 drops of Neroli.
Add your carrier oil and essential oils to the glass container. Swirl around the container to mix the oils. For your reference, 1/4 cup of carrier oil is equivalent to approximately 4 tablespoons. If you’d like to add more, we recommend doing so at a ratio of 1 tablespoon of carrier oil per 5-7 drops of oil, so feel free to get creative!
STEP 2
Place your diffuser sticks/bamboo skewers into the container. You can find these in most craft stores. There is no “right” or “wrong” number of sticks to use, so go with whatever tickles your fancy!
Since it may take several hours for the aromatic oils to travel up the sticks, we recommend flipping them every few hours to help speed along the process.
STEP 3
Congratulations, you’ve just made your very own reed diffuser! These lovely diffusers can last for a couple weeks, depending on how much oil you put in. Flip the sticks every few days to refresh the scent.
When the oil has been used up, simply wash the glass container with warm water, replace the sticks with fresh ones and repeat these easy steps. It’s that simple!
