Winter is notorious for drying out your skin. Between the cold, wind, and dry air outside and the heat blasting inside, it’s no wonder many people find themselves in a skin dilemma during these winter months.
But it doesn’t have to be that way! Here are 5 tips to help keep your skin soothed and moisturized throughout the wintertime.
- Drink More Water
Of course, this is something we should all be doing, but it’s especially helpful during these cold, dry months. Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go, or if herbal tea is more your style, invest in a good thermos to always have at hand!
- Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!
This may seem like common sense to some but taking the time to do research and purchase the best lotions and creams for your skin type can make a world of difference. Keep in mind that not all lotions should be used on the face, and that others are better suited for the body. Try to find a cream that is oil-based so it creates a protective barrier against the winter elements. You also want to make sure any facial creams are non-clogging so your pores can breathe, baby!
- Give Your Hands a Hand
After your face, your hands probably take the hardest beating during these cold months. While the weather is no help, washing your hands with soap and water can actually dry them out as well. Keep Coconut Oil next to your sink or at your desk and lather up after washing your hands to help them retain their moisture. If you’re hanging around the house, put on soft cotton gloves after moisturizing to help trap the moisture and let your cream soak in. Do the same with your feet and warm cotton socks!
- Use Sunscreen
It’s not just for the summer months! The winter sun, especially when paired with the reflection of the snow, can still damage your skin. Whether you’re walking the dog, building a snowman, or going on a ski trip, dig the sunscreen out of the beach bag and slather it on—and don’t forget to reapply!
- Invest in a Humidifier
Central heating systems have one solid function: pumping hot, dry air into your home and office. Getting a humidifier, whether a small desk one or a larger one to hide in a corner of the room, can help put much-needed moisture back into the air and keep your skin feeling soft and supple.
