When warmer weather hits, we’re prone to hitting the open road, especially with family and friends. It’s important to remember that on long drives, that keeping yourself fueled is as important as making sure there’s gas in your car. But before you load up on candy bars and potato chips at the gas station on your next fill-up, consider planning ahead with your snacks for the road and making some healthier choices.
Here are five of our favorite choices for a road trip that you can easily pack and bring along with you.
Pumpkin Seeds: We love pumpkin seeds. We can eat them by the handful. They’re a great handy snack for anyone on the road. Raw or roasted, salted or full of their own tasty, light flavor, we think they’re absolutely delicious and definitely on our must-pack list.
Dried Fruit: Cranberries, pineapple, apricots and more. Sometimes dried fruit packs all of the flavor to satisfy when we’re hankering for something sweet.
Nuts: Sometimes when that mid-afternoon hunger hits, it’s tempting to pull off the road and load up on junk at the local rest stop. But we’re a big fan of nuts, like almonds and cashews. Just a handful is enough to rev us up and keep us going!
Banana Chips: When we’re craving something crunchy, we reach for some banana chips. They’re a great snack for all ages if you’re on the road with the whole family because they have all of the crunch of our favorite guilty pleasure – chips. You’ll quickly find yourself replacing the spot on the shelf where the potato chips used to be with this delightful snack!
Protein Shakes/Smoothies: If you’re looking for little added boost on the road, don’t automatically reach for a cup of coffee or an energy drink! We’re a big fan of a smoothie or shake. Easily customizable and made with fresh ingredients and protein powder, you’ll always find one in our cup holders.
